How does Cognitive Behavioral Therapy work?

Treatment modality used is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which is an action-oriented form of therapy that assumes that maladaptive, or faulty, thinking patterns cause maladaptive behavior and "negative" emotions. Maladaptive behavior is considered any behavior that is counter-productive or interferes with everyday living. The treatment focus is on changing an individual's thoughts in order to change his/her/their behavior and emotional state. CBT is considered one of the leading treatments for anxiety, depression, stress management, recent changes in your life, and much more.

Trauma Therapy

How does Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy work?

Trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT) is an evidence-based treatment approach shown to help children, adolescents, and their caretakers overcome trauma-related difficulties. It is designed to reduce negative emotional and behavioral responses following traumatic events (e.g. childhood abuse, sexual abuse, physical abuse, emotional abuse, bullying, grief, etc.). TF-CBT also helps parents cope effectively with their own emotional distress and develop skills that support their children.

This treatment is strongly recommended for the treatment of PTSD and depression and/or anxiety.

Family Counseling

Family counseling supports parents and their children to work through barriers and negative behavioral patterns which are causing stress within the family system. Problems that can be improved by family counseling are mental health challenges of a individual family member, behavioral problems, issues in an educational setting, communication barriers, etc.

The sessions are held together with all family members. However, sometimes individual sessions are necessary for a successful treatment.
